Port’s Music program provides an opportunity for students to learn to express themselves musically whilst nurturing skills that may provide future opportunities in the music industry.
The program focused on digital technology within music, developing skills including D-Jing and podcasting, electronic music, mixing and mastering. Students gained confidence with electronic composition and song mixing. The Live Music program catered to the instrumentalists. Skills on the piano, guitar, drums, ukulele and percussion were nurtured, and students were encouraged to compose their own music. Student skills in recording and live mixing developed progressed rapidly and resulted in some outstanding audio recordings.
After a year of overcoming fears, students on the program had mastered a completed song or had gained instrumental and/or DJ skills that they will be able to utilise for self-care or future employment.
The Live Music program is complemented by the ongoing and successful relationship with the ‘Grass Roots Music Foundation’ (formerly Boonderu Music Foundation).
