Dwellingup Furniture Camp

Dwellingup Furniture Camp

In June, Port arranged its very first ‘Furniture Camp’, which took place in Dwellingup in the beautiful South-West. It was open to Furniture and Workshop students who, for a couple of half-days, assisted local residents Monique and Pete Tippett who are setting up a residential artists’ studio for able-bodied and handicapped artists.

The studio is being housed in an old haberdashery located in the main street of Dwellingup, and the team worked on the building for around three hours each day scraping and painting, as well as doing some work in their farm paddocks. Afternoon activities included an 18 km mountain bike ride and a high ropes adventure.

As no phone or wi-fi coverage was available on the farm, the evening focus was on healthy home-cooked meals, eaten around a long table.

A good time was had by all, with lots of work done and some great achievements by some of the students who pushed themselves beyond their comfort zones. Our hosts were very impressed with our behavior and have invited us to return.

Providing a real alternative for adolescents who need a different kind of school.
